How long have you been riding for?
21 years, riding and racing!
What or who influenced you to start riding bicycles?
I always rode bikes around my neighborhood as a kid. However, I started mountain biking from the influence of a friend I had met while running XC in college. He and my brother thought it would be “fun” to “take me out riding, and watch me crash”……..a month later, I was on the start line of my first beginner race.
What disciplines do you compete in and what do you love most about this type of riding?
I used to be a hardcore XC racer, until I figured out that longer distances were my “thing”. In 2001, I had the opportunity to go race the 24 hour mtn bike race solo at the Gorge Games in Hood River, Oregon. I placed 3rd, won a little money, and the rest is history. I’ve been racing 12 and 24 hour solo races ever since……with a recent venture into stage racing.
Give us some of your racing/competition highlights:
7 time winner of the Women’s Solo category at 24 Hrs of Idyllwild
24 Hr Solo National Champion (back before it was USA Cycling “official”)
24 Hr Solo World Champion (Women 30-34)
Duo Open Women Champion at Breck Epic in 2013
Do you have any goals for 2015?
I would LOVE to podium at 24 Hour Solo World Championships this year!
What’s some of the best bicycle-related advice someone has given you that made a huge difference for you?
If I had to pick one thing that has helped me, and that I have been able to pass on to others to help them, would be the advice of “never look where you don’t want to go, and always look ahead at where you want to go” when on the bike. Works every time (for good, or bad! Haha).
What your day job?
I am a “bean counter” (inventory auditor) for Costco. I’ve actually been working there the same amount of time I have been mountain biking……it has obviously been a great job, in that it has allowed me to race!
